Our poem this week was called Five Little Turkeys. The turkeys were trying to get away because they did not want to be on a Thanksgiving tray as dinner. We took turns reading the different turkey lines. THen we illustrated and circled our popcorn words in the poem before adding it to our poetry notebook.

Our Weekly Reader was all about the First Thanksgiving this week.

Math
In math this week we finished topic 5. This week we practiced counting numbers 11-20. We also pracitced writing and identifing these numbers. We will continue to practice these numbers as they are very tricky for the students because their names do not follow a pattern. Next week we will begin topic 6 called counting to one hundred. We will be looking at patterns in counting to help us count this high. We are all almost counting to 50 now!

Review for the Weeks of October 27th and November 5th

We had a wonderful Halloween celebration last Friday. Last week a post did not go out about our week so this post includes this week and last week.
Thank you again to all of the parents for their support during the Halloween party and parade. The party would not happen without your donations, time and effort put into the planning. I know the children had a blast at the party. The energy level was high and I'm sure they were ready to go trick or treating as soon as they got home.

Handwriting
In handwriting we practiced the capital and lowercase letters Cc and Ee. We are just about ready to start our writing curriculum!

Reading
During our reading time we read the books Stellaluna and The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin. Last week with the story Stellaluna we learned many new facts about bats. We mapped this information on a chart called a schema chart. On our chart we added information that we already knew about bats (schema), then at the end of the week we added all of the new information we had learned to the new information section. If we found out that one of our intial background knowledge about bats was not true we moved the sticky note that it was written on to the "misconceptions" column. We also used the information we learned about bats to make another chart. We finished the sentences Bats can, bats have, and bats are to map out this new information.

During our week of Spookley we discussed how we treat friends with respect in kindergarten and at home. In the story Spookley was different then all of the other pumpkins and the round pumpkins made him feel bad about himself. At the end of the story Spookley learns that just because he is different does not mean he is not a valuable pumpkin, he is just unique. Then we had to decide for ourselves what shape pumpkin we would be. We made a movie to explain our choices and to show you our projects. We will share as soon as it is ready.

Our poem this week was called The Scarecrow.

Our Weekly Reader was all about a Veterans and why we celebrate them on November 11th.

Math
These two weeks in math have been focused on ordering and comparing numbers 1-10. We compared had to find the number on a number line that was 1 more, 1 fewer, 2 more, and 2 fewer. We also used number lines to find the missing numbers when ordering numbers 0-10 In our math centers we practiced these skills with our games, puzzles and stamps.
