Reading
During our reading time we read the book Arthurs Perfect Christmas by Marc Brown. Through this book we discussed the meaning of traditions and those in which our families have. Many of the students shared their traditions that related to different holidays, but we also came up with traditions that may be for a special occasion such as taking a picture the first day of school. Then we watched Arthurs Perfect Christmas the movie and compared the similarities and differences in the movie and book.  We focused on vocabulary words such as Hanukkah (celebrated by the character Francine in the book) and Kwanzaa (celebrated by the character Brain).

Our poem this week was called A Cute Little Snowman. We searched for vowel letters in this poem as well as our popcorn words.

Our weekly reader was about Holiday Lights. We identified the main idea and details of our magazine as well as played a holiday I spy game!

Math
In math this week we started finished topic 6, counting to 100, and began topic 7 understanding addition. Our math centers focused on finding, counting and writing teen numbers. We practiced reading number words from 1-10 and worked on putting numbers together on items such as two dice (beginning addition).

Reading
During our reading time we read the book Me and My Family Tree. We made predictions before the story to guess what a family tree is. Among some of the guesses was that a family tree is a tree where your family has a party and it is a tree where people live. After reading the story though we learned that it was just like a map, but instead of showing us where we live it shows everyone in our family. Some of us were even able to describe our own family trees. To go along with our story we made a Family Book. Inside we wrote/drew pictures of our family, where we live, our favorite things to eat with our families as well as our favorite things to do with our families.

Our poem this week was called Lil Ole Elf. We have an elf who visits our classroom each day, we named him Magic Icicle. Our classroom elf leaves us notes on different ways to be kind to our classmates and other people. We have helped our janitors by picking up the trash in our classroom. We had a compliment day where we shared nice things about our friends and today our elf asked us to be kind to our parents and help clean up our toys!

Math
In math this week we started topic 6. During this topic we will be working on counting to 100. We have been working with patterns in counting such as counting by 1's and now counting by 10's. Counting by 10s is tricky for some of us so continue to practice. We searched for missing numbers in a number line, raced to the finish by identifying teen numbers, stamping teen numbers and completing puzzles.

Important Reminders
