We had a blast reading the Dr. Seuss books. We practiced alot of rhyming this week as each book lends itself to this type of practice.

We continued our poetry unit this week with the poem Your Body to the tune of The Ants go Marching.

Reading
We have been practicing the reading skill “wondering.” While reading sometimes we wonder what will happen next, or about a characters feelings, or even why something has just happened. We are sharing these wonderings with our friends and teacher during story time. Last week we read our story “Henry’s Wrong Turn” and this week we read books about dental hygiene.

Vocabulary we have learned: creature, imitate, companion, explore, generous, nuisance, energetic, exhausted, soar, tangled, snooze, drowsy, pedestrian, passenger, eager, assortment, enjoy, gooey, container, scrumptious, whirl, scramble, determined, proud, snatch, furious, comfort, welcome, allow, frustrated, decide, practice, filthy, slam, concerned, moan, observe, enormous, patient, scoop, uncomfortable, comfortable, cozy and straight, doubtful, cautious

We continued our poetry unit this week with the poem Loose Tooth.

Our weekly reader this week was all about our teeth and keeping them clean!

Math
In math we practiced solving addition sentences by using manipulatives, such as unifix cubes and red/yellow counters. We also practiced acting out different addition problems so that students really have an understanding for what it means when we are adding. We had some dental hygiene themed math centers with shaking addition, adding dental pictures and writing math sentences.
