We read books and poems that included our popcorn words.
Words we know: a, I, it, in, see, big, my, like, up, run, at, on, we, me, am, did, not, is, can, but, to, too.
Next week: little, and, yes

We are bringing home a “for” poem called “What Goes Together?” We practiced reading the poem today with a partner and using the picture clues if we forgot a word. As us to read it to you tonight!

Handwriting
In handwriting this week we practiced the last of our capital letters. Next week we will begin writing in lowercase letters. We are also practicing writing our names with the correct formation of the letters (the first letter being uppercase and the rest lowercase).

Reading
During reading we read Maisy’s Pool. Many of us checked out other Maisy books in the library this week.

Vocabulary we have learned: creature, imitate, companion, explore, generous, nuisance, energetic, exhausted, soar, tangled, snooze, drowsy, pedestrian, passenger, eager, assortment, enjoy, gooey, container, scrumptious, whirl, scramble, determined, proud, snatch, furious, comfort, welcome, allow, frustrated, decide, practice, filthy, slam, concerned, moan, observe, enormous, patient, scoop, uncomfortable, and comfortable.

We continued our poetry unit this week with the poem Lil Ole Elf.

There once was an elf
who sat on a shelf.
He watched girls and boys
to determine the toys
St. Nick would deliver himself!

Math
We continued our numbers unit this week. This week we worked on finding and reading the number 14. We also searched our classroom for the number 14. We have been working hard at reading the teen numbers. This week we played a matching game of teen numbers, sequenced numbers from 1-20 through various games, and practiced counting by 10s. As a group we practice counting by tens in the morning at calendar and during our group math time. During one of our games we had to say a number in order around a circle. If we landed on a ten we had to sit down. The last person standing was our tens champ. We have played this a couple of times but only counting from 1-50. We will soon be working on 1-100!
