Reading
This week we read St. Patrick's Day themed books. We read several Irish folktale stories including The Leprechaun's Gold and Jamie O'Rourke and the Big Potato. We compared how these stories were alike and different. We also looked at the characters in the story and answered the question "Who would you decide to help and why?" We had many though provoking answers to this question. Some of us wanted to help the kind, caring, and generous old man get new strings for his harp so he could play for the whole town while some of us wanted to help young Tom become a nicer person. All of the answers were correct as long as they could give a reason

We continued our poetry unit this week with the poem Splish! Splash! to the tune of Home on the Range

Our weekly reader this week was all about Spring!

Math

In math we started our measurement unit. We learned the vocabulary words, longest, shortest, and tallest. It was tricky to remember that when measuring width we use shortest and longest, but we also use shortest (and tallest) for measuring height. We practiced making taller and shorter and longest and shortest block towers. We also found our tallest and shortest friends.
